After-School Program for New York City Students
GRADES 1 - 8
Our After-School Program is designed to provide students in grades 1-8 with assistance for classwork and homework assignments, as well as grade-appropriate ELA and Math enrichment through our own curriculum.
Our Philosophy and Approach
Students’ growth should not be limited by their grade-level curriculum. Our after-school program provides each student with the support they need to build a foundation in grade-level concepts, complete their homework, and move into advanced material. By forming a strong educational foundation, our instructors help each student excel beyond their academic curriculum and prepare them for competitive high schools such as Stuyvesant, the Bronx High School of Science, and Brooklyn Tech. The program is open to students in Grades 1-8 and runs from 3 pm to 5:45 pm every weekday.
Individualization and Pulling
We not only individualize our curriculum - we also continually adapt the pace of our curriculum to meet the needs of each student. When a student feels challenged and needs time to process, we move slowly and meticulously, which allows us to build a sturdy foundation. Similarly, we move into a full-speed gear when we notice a student is “pulling” for content, or quickly internalizing new topics and showing a thirst for more. We recognize that all students go through phases of pulling, and we work to nurture those phases so our students reap the benefits.
Our Mathematics Approach
Our approach focuses on improving numeracy and mental math in addition to covering common core standards. We seek to develop strong mathematical intuition in our students, so they are not reliant on procedures. As an organization, we already have an incredibly strong track record in mathematics. Nearly 100% of our after school students boast a 3 or 4 on the mathematics portion of their report card, even when they only spend a few hours a week on math enrichment in our program.
Our English Approach
We follow a two-pronged approach with a focus on building the two most important pillars of reading and writing:
1. Mastery of Language: The extended research of and understanding of the English language through all mediums, including mastery of grammar, syntax, and writing structure.
2. Communication and Expression: Developing the creative process and an understanding of how reading and writing are relevant in today’s world.
Studio Art
Our studio art classes offer an intensive exploration of artistic elements, technique, and history for all ages. Students will build the foundational skills necessary to express themselves through visual media. Our Studio Art Class is integrated into our after school program and focuses on portfolio building, a study of the elements of art, introduction to 2D media, and thematic projects.
Art may also be heavily integrated throughout our entire after school curriculum. The use of imagery and muscle memory through drawing and painting aids in the retention of information for all subjects. A creative classroom environment promotes critical thinking and unique approaches to problem solving.

This schedule continues to alternate throughout the week. On Fridays, we offer Studio Art as the enrichment portion of the program.
Sanidas Tutoring also provides pick-up from P.S./I.S. 78 at 2:30pm for students enrolled in the second After-School program. There is a fee for pick-up, and the students/teachers travel back to Sanidas Tutoring by foot.
What is IXL?
IXL is an online learning platform that provides students with personalized learning, comprehensive analytics, and a massive amount of learning resources for parents and teachers based off of the students’ needs. It will be used to completely bridge the gap between parent and teacher in regards to a student’s performance. The teachers will be working to retrieve as much data as possible through this application, so that we may continue to individualize curriculum with greater ease, and with more feedback for us, as well as you, the parents.
*One time registration fee for most programs. Registration for the After School Program is required on an annual basis.
Registration is mandatory for all enrolled students at Sanidas Tutoring.
After-School Program in New York and NYC

What to Expect from Our After School Program in New York
The Sanidas Tutoring after-school program runs from 3:00 to 5:45 p.m. every weekday. For a fee, we offer the added service of pickup from P.S./I.S. 78 at 2:30 for students enrolled in the second section.
When students arrive, they’re treated to a snack that serves as a short break and fuels extended study time. Next, students can tackle their homework assignments with assistance from teachers.
We offer daily enrichment in Math, English, and Studio Art, with subjects alternating throughout the week. Students without homework can jump right in, while those completing homework can join the group lesson when their assignments are complete. Following lessons, we prepare students for outside pickup.
Student Safety
We have taken steps to create a safe and healthy environment in our after-school program. To start, students have their temperature taken before entering the building. Washing and sanitizing hands is encouraged throughout their time in attendance.
Sanidas Tutoring requests that students bring their own study devices for the purposes of hygiene, but we are happy to provide devices for students who do not have access to their own.
When students leave, facilities and supplies are thoroughly disinfected prior to the arrival of the next scheduled group. An effective learning environment begins with health and safety, and our after-school program in New York takes these concerns seriously.
Homework Assistance
The main focus of our after-school program in NYC is ensuring that students have the assistance they need to complete homework, fully grasp grade-level concepts, and thrive in their primary education program. We provide individual help with assignments, concentrating on mastering fundamental mathematics and English concepts.
Sanidas Tutoring offers not only homework assistance but enrichment lessons for the whole class, with options to break out into small groups of students at a similar level. We also provide targeted study for individual students.
Daily Enrichment Activities
While helping students complete homework is the first goal of our after-school program, we don’t leave students idle when they finish early. Our daily lessons are designed to offer enrichment in both core subjects and art.
Each session will focus on the Sanidas Tutoring English Curriculum, Mathematics, or Studio Art, with lessons alternating in subject matter throughout the week.
English enrichment focuses on important developments like phonemic awareness, vocabulary and grammar, and creative writing.
Math lessons are designed to help students excel in mental math while also developing a solid grasp of core operations to prepare for more complex mathematics study (algebra).
Studio Art provides foundational lessons in art history, elements, and techniques as a pathway toward individual expression.
Practice with IXL
The IXL application is a tool for helping teachers better understand student progress. We’ve integrated this platform at Sanidas Tutoring for the purpose of performing real-time diagnostic assessments that are used to pinpoint student strengths and individual challenges.
This information allows us to tailor lessons to each child’s individual needs. When students practice their lessons in IXL, they receive skill-specific reinforcement that serves to ingrain concepts and knowledge, providing the foundation for more advanced learning.
After-School Program Enrichment Activities
